What is a clipping mask? Just wondering. I'm looking through mask tutorials to see if that can help me shade better. And I keep getting clipping mask tutorials.

Great tutorial, but I'm still clueless on one aspect
(and I've looked everywhere for someone to address this so if you can you'll be my hero of the week
:worship:)! In photoshop the contents in a clipping mask are movable, you know what I mean right? The mask stays put but you can pan the image as you like until you apply the mask or merge it down or whatever. Can I do that in Gimp? Anxiously awaiting your response
